AIGA Louisville is proud to welcome Chris Nolen, Creative Director at Mightily and Principal Creative at Noleo Fantastico as part of our free Speaker Series:
“Designing For Animals: How Human Evolution Has Influenced Design – And How To Harness It”
Humanity is the product of millions of years natural selection. Our senses and the brain that processes that information are the crowning achievement of this struggle – a hodgepodge of
vestigial components from various stages that have given us the tools to survive as a species. Some useful, and some…not so much.
Our civilization has been shaped by these constituents and often adversarial parts – and whether we realize it or not, our visual communication is in many ways the most essential expression of
that influence. Look at the world around you – the products you buy, the things that catch your eye on your commute – these objects appeal to something primal in us, well beyond our rational
minds. We NEED that bottle of Coke. We are compelled to caution when we see a construction sign. Why does that building’s proportions feel so perfect as opposed to the structure next to it?
The answer is literally in our DNA. Let’s talk about how to use it.
