The word home is most often defined as a rooted, physical space but can home be viewed as a moment in time or as an ever-fluctuating entity that lives within? Could it be all of the above? Why, yes. Yes, it can. 

Sarah Flood-Baumann's recent graduate thesis and subsequently her Louisville Design Week talk explores her journey home through the lens of graphic design. For two years, Sarah analyzed, researched, wrote, failed, created and experimented with the goal of discovering her version of home. "For me, the journey of coming home was examining the impact of my Louisville roots (both past and present) on my designer self. It meant looking inward and mapping my thoughts and experiences and it meant inserting myself into a new community far away from the city that raised me. Ultimately, it was an exploration of my culture, connection and intuition and how moments and places (both big and small) have impacted my voice as a human, woman and graphic designer." In addition to sharing projects and lessons learned from Sarah's thesis, you’ll also learn about her design process and current projects as it relates to home.

Sarah is from the place that races horses every first Saturday in May, she is a recent graduate of Vermont College of Fine Arts’ MFA Graphic Design program and now lives in the Lone Star state working as the art director for the San Antonio Current.
