From record store clerk to graphic designer to printer, Rick decided that design was his path long before he was legally eligible to vote. Rick got his big start on Madison Avenue working in production rooms for FCB/LKP and doing layout and production for many New York ad agencies and magazines. Rick took the leap towards self-reliance in 1991. Primarily working for New York’s contemporary music and performing arts community.
Rick has been guiding designers, design teachers, government, and design-centric entrepreneurs to ethical action an ethical practice.
Rick’s Lecture ‘Design as a meditation on policy, ethics, and the means of production’ will reflect on his almost 30 Years in Graphic Design and the work from his Type Laboratory and Design Practice called MATTER, and on his experiences in writing cultural policy for the City and County of Denver.
