This event is organized by Anchal Project as part of the second annual AIGA Louisville Design Week 2016. For a full list of Design Week events, visit aigalou.org/designweek.
With a harvest of the dyeScape garden Anchal will demonstrate creative dye techniques with plants like Indigo & Marigold. They will share the history of natural dyeing, how to grow & harvest natural dye plants & how to dye fibers / t-shirts with natural dye. Anchal will provide an interactive experience and share how individuals can grow & harvest their own dye plants.
dyeScape, a natural dye garden located in the Portland neighborhood of Louisville, is Anchal's first local initiative. Anchal (on-chal) is a Louisville based nonprofit social enterprise that addresses the exploitation of women around the world by using design thinking to create employment opportunities, products and markets that support empowerment.
Anchal believes the next sustainable movement is an eco-friendly & ethical textile system. Anchal’s new project dyeScape is a natural dye initiative that will provide career opportunities to exploited women in Louisville. The network of urban gardens will grow dye plants that will then be harvested and used for naturally dyed products and dyestuffs. Collectively dyeScape will empower women, enhance ecological balance and educate the community about sustainable textile practices.
