Hi! We’re AIGA Louisville. We may seem new to town, but we’re continuing a long legacy of great design in Kentuckiana.
The Louisville Graphic Design Association (LGDA) was founded in 1989 by an intrepid group which included: Steve Skaggs, Theresa Heitzman, Kevin Wyatt, Julia Comer, Karen Abney and Bruce Huninghake in an effort to establish a community for creative professional in Louisville and the surrounding areas. Over the span of 25 years, LGDA was able to sponsor educational seminars, special events and lectures by leading design professionals including: Stefan Sagemeister, Charles Anderson, Louise Fili, Steven Heller, Ann Willoughby, Aaron Draplin, April Greiman, and many more.
In 2013, the LGDA board voted to pursue the establishment of an AIGA chapter. In 2014, we made it official and joined the world-wide community of design, offering expanded benefits to our members and joining the work of AIGA chapters across the country, and now the world.
As we continue to build and shape AIGA Louisville, we’re committed to promoting great local design and furthering the development of our creative community. We’ve continued LGDA’s weeknight speaker series and bring in designers, illustrators, typographers and photographers from across the country to share their work. We’ve started Lunch-a-vuls, a new series bringing local creatives together during lunch to learn, discuss, and grow the community. Louisville Designer Brews is a casual monthly social hour with local designers and great opportunity for networking. To cap off the year, we’ll be celebrating with the first installment of the AIGA Louisville Show. To get involved, become a member, check out our upcoming events, or see how you can volunteer. We look forward to seeing you around!
